Abhinav Prem (Bard College) and Aditi Mitra (New York University) invite applications for a Postdoctoral Fellowship within the Simons Targeted Research Group on the Non-Equilibrium Frontier. The Fellowship will support an outstanding early-career scientist pursuing research in theoretical condensed matter and theoretical quantum information science.
The Non-Equilibrium Frontier studies quantum matter driven far from equilibrium. The collaboration's work spans the mathematical foundations of quantum dynamics, the classification of intrinsically dynamical phases of matter, the characterization of fault-tolerant quantum computation as a non-equilibrium phase, and the nature of complexity in evolving quantum systems.
Fellows in this position will be free to pursue their own research directions across the landscape of non-equilibrium quantum matter, including but not limited to driven-dissipative systems, mixed-state phases of matter, and non-equilibrium topology. The appointment is a research position with no teaching or other duties, and offers flexibility in geographical location, with the New York City area as a natural base.
The Fellow will be a full member of the Research Group and is encouraged to work with any of its groups, including affiliated members (see the collaboration team). They will benefit from the collaboration's regular meetings, schools, and visitor exchanges, which connect the participating institutions into a single research programme. Cross-institutional collaboration is actively encouraged.
The appointment is for two years, with the possibility of renewal for a third. Appointments come with a competitive salary and $5,000 annually in research funding, together with benefits. The start date is negotiable but no later than September 1, 2027.
Applicants should have a strong track record of research excellence and should have, or be approaching, a PhD in physics or a related field.
